TOM SPENCE
February 2001
Graphics/painter b. Australia 1953

Tom was born and raised on a large property in outback Queensland. He later studied at the College of Fine Art Sydney. 1n 1994, he was awarded the Dobell Prize for drawing. The same year, he participated in the pilot residency program at the Haefliger cottage Hill End. In 1998 he was awarded the Blake Prize for Religious Art.

ANDREW HEWISH

Painter b. Australia 1968

A graduate of English at Sydney University, Andrew completed a Master of Fine Arts at the College of Fine Arts, Sydney in 2000 and previously studied at the Julian Ashton Art School. In 1998 he exhibited at New England Regional Art Gallery and he is represented by Michael Carr Art Dealer. He is currently living in London.

JUDY COTTON

Judy Cotton was born in Broken Hill Australia and grew up in Oberon and Bathurst. She studied at Sydney University, East Sydney Technical College, Victoria University in New Zealand and the institute of Fine Arts in New York City. She lived and worked in South Korea and Japan before immigrating to the USA in 1970, where her work is represented in many major collections. She lives and works in New York City and Connecticut. Judy has exhibited widely both internationally and in Australia and is well known in the USA for her work in encaustics.

CHRISTOPHER DOLMAN

Painter b. Canada 1977

Christopher completed an Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts at Southern Sydney Art School in 1999. Since graduating Christopher has been based west of Kempsey near Taylor's Arm. From here he has produced work for several Sydney shows. In 1999 his work was exhibited in the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship.

CATHY LAUDENBACH

Cathy completed a Master of Arts at Canberra School of Art in 1998. Currently Cathy is in the Australian Centre for Photography touring show New Australiana, which explores the popular culture of contemporary Australia, one hundred years after federation. Cathy works part time at the Canberra School of Art in the photography department.

JOANNE LINSDELL

Installation artist

Joanne has a Master of Visual Arts from the Sydney College of the Arts and Glasgow School of Art. She also has a Graduate Diploma in Education and works as Education Officer for the National Trust, NSW. In 1999 Joanne was Artist in Residence at Noosa Regional Art Gallery and has shown recently at ARTBOX at Sherman Galleries, Hargrave. Joanne's installation work involves the study of the resonance and structure of objects.

June is based in Queensland and has been a practicing visual artist for more than 25 years. June has exhibited regularly in Australia and internationally, showing with Ray Hughes Gallery in Sydney and Brisbane. June has also tutored privately and at several tertiary institutions.

MAUREEN HANSEN

Painter b. 1968

A painter and visual arts teacher based in Brisbane, Maureen has exhibited regularly with the Ray Hughes Gallery in Brisbane and Sydney. In 1999 she held both a solo and group exhibition in London. Preferring to paint directly from life, Maureen has an energetic style, which incorporates heavy brushwork with an uninhibited use of colour.

CHRISTINE MCMILLAN

Installation artist/painter b. 1956

Christine is a full-time artist based in Kandos NSW. She held a very successful solo show in 2000 at Dubbo Regional Art Gallery and has exhibited in group shows at Galleries in Rylstone, Mudgee, Dubbo and Bathurst. An interest in bushwalking and botany has informed the development of her most recent work, The Xanth Series.

A visual artist working across a variety of media - painting, drawing, textiles, installation and photography. In 1998 Ruth completed a Masters of Arts in the Textile workshop of the Canberra School of Art and is an Accredited Professional Member of Craft ACT. In her work Ruth explores the responses of women to the Australian landscape in the creation and expression of their identity, and for the past six years the theme of her practise has been life in Australian goldfields. She has specifically investigated how the inhabitants constructed their homes in response to the surrounding landscape and what these places could reveal about their attitudes to the environment.
